The list of the 50 best trattorias in Italy for 2025 was released by 50 Top Italy, a derivation of the well-known classification of the 50 best pizzerias in the country.
At the top, the title of best trattoria went to Antica Osteria del Mirasole, beating the champion until then, Burde Trattoria (Florence), which fell to third place. In second place is Abraxas Osteria from Pozzuoli, near Naples.
Featured regions and controversies over the term “trattoria”
Lazio, with 8 trattorias on the list, stands out as the region with the greatest presence in the ranking, with the city of Rome in the spotlight with five establishments. Campania and Emilia Romagna are tied for second place, with five trattorias each featuring among the best.
However, doubts arise about the concept of “trattoria” for some names on the list, such as Arming the Pantheon (Rome) to At the Exchange (Bologna), which, according to the organization, were included more for the gastronomic offer than for the affordable prices normally associated with the term.
Who's in and who's out
Some notable absences caused surprise. At Lazio, for example, Caesar at the House, considered a prototype of contemporary trattoria, and the Pennestri restaurant did not appear. Likewise, the famous Inn of the Old Gesù, in Naples, was left out.
In the ranking of trattorias in Emilia Romagna, the low position of At the Due Platani, considered one of the best in the region, along with Three Siocchet, both located in Parma.
Meanwhile, Molise, often overlooked, has managed to include two trattorias: Locanda Mammi in Agnone (IS) and Trattoria Da Concetta em Campobasso.
Surprises from other Italian regions
Abruzzo appeared with two trattorias in the ranking: The Old Marina in Roseto degli Abruzzi (TE), almost entering the top 10, and mammaròssa in Avezzano (AQ). In Lombardy, the absence of one of the most iconic addresses, the La Crepa Cafe from Isola Dovarese (CR), also generated discussion among cooking enthusiasts.
With so many regional traditions and unique flavors, the list of the best Italian trattorias for 2025 offers a true gastronomic tour of the country, highlighting both classics and new names on the culinary scene.
